With over 30 years' experience of working in the creative, cultural and not-for-profit sector, in 2020 I established Kate Dore Consulting to support organisations during periods of strategic change and growth.

Creative Spaces
I am passionate about making and supporting creative spaces. I am currently working with Bradford 25 UK City of Culture on a feasibility study for a new creative space to house and celebrate the city's collection of sculptural panels by William Mitchell.

Artists' studio clients include West Yorkshire Print Workshop working on their capital works options appraisal and Krowji in Cornwall as a mentor for their Director.  I have also worked with SPACE Studios, London, bringing together artists, staff and trustees to work on the development of their 2020/21 strategic review.

At Yorkshire Artspace I devised, developed, delivered and managed two major capital projects each providing 70+ affordable artists' studios plus gallery and project spaces. The award-winning Persistence Works (£5.5m 2001) is the first purpose-built studio complex for artists and makers in the UK. And yes, persistence does work! By contrast, Exchange Place Studios (2019) was a largely self-funded refurbishment based on phased occupation of an unloved Art Deco beauty. Both buildings pioneered the regeneration of run down areas of Sheffield city centre.  At Manor Oaks and Knutton Road Studios I supported the development and delivery of two neighbourhood studio complexes (around 10 studios spaces each) with social enterprise partners.

Networks
As a founder member of the much missed National Federation of Artists' Studio Providers (NFASP) I host free surgeries for studio managers across the UK to share good practice and offer mutual support. Regular participants include Krowji, Bow Arts and SPACE Studios.  Our next meeting is on Tuesday January 28th 2025 12.30-1.30pm. Recent supportive conversations have included updating charitable objectives, safeguarding, ventilation issues and managing outside work areas. Come share. Feel heard. Be supported.  Just email me if you would like to join us.

I was a founder member of the Sheffield Culture Consortium and in my year as chair I led on the development and production of the Consortium's Culture Plan.

"I would highly recommend Kate who is an excellent listener, facilitator and leader and can move easily between these modes. She provided us with excellent project support and positively challenged and stretched us as well as being fun and friendly to work with. She is an expert in her field and I'm sure we will work with Kate again."

Clare Alton-Fletcher, Director, West Yorkshire Print Workshop
